Switzerland Days 2024 in Tashkent: showcasing quality, innovation, and reliability for sustainable development.
The official launch of "Swiss Days" was marked by the opening of the immersive art installation BREATHE WITH ME by Swiss artist Annabelle Schneider. Previously showcased during design weeks in New York and Barcelona, this installation explored themes of mindfulness and sustainability, offering a unique artistic perspective on a sustainable lifestyle. The exhibition was organized by the Embassy of Switzerland in the Republic of Uzbekistan in collaboration with curator Inessa Boltyanskaya and took place from November 23 to 26 at the Tashkent City Mall atrium.
Originally created for NYCxDESIGN, the installation gained international recognition for its ability to create spaces for tranquility and reflection. BREATHE WITH ME provided a calming atmosphere, complemented by the soundscapes of Swiss musician Luc Oger.
Schneider's work held special significance for Uzbekistan, addressing critical environmental issues such as air quality and the consequences of the Aral Sea's drying. The installation seamlessly incorporated poufs inspired by traditional Uzbek ikat patterns, crafted by La Maison Du Tchapan, which successfully merged ancient cultural traditions with modern design.
“This installation highlighted the universal need for moments of calm, especially in regions facing environmental challenges,” explained curator Inessa Boltyanskaya. “It demonstrated how thoughtful design can bridge global and local contexts, creating spaces for reflection and action.”
Visitors to the installation were invited to become part of its ever-changing environment, embodying the principles of inclusivity, sustainability, and relaxation. This "living" setting served as a timely reminder of the power of art in responding to contemporary challenges. Over five days, attendees could engage in sound therapy sessions, meditative practices, and immersive experiences that promoted mindfulness and inner unity.
“Switzerland: Quality. Innovation. Reliability”
Swiss Days continued on November 26 with a series of workshops and business sessions under the overarching theme “Switzerland: Quality. Innovation. Reliability,” aimed at strengthening connections between the business communities of Uzbekistan and Switzerland.
This year’s business program focused on topics such as “Water Resources and Agricultural Development,” “Healthcare,” “Education,” and “Urban Infrastructure Development.” Representatives from the Swiss private sector, around 20 companies including global leaders in their fields, shared valuable insights and solutions that could support the further development of Uzbekistan.
Additionally, on November 26, an exhibition titled "Against the Current" was opened at the Hyatt Regency, showcasing Switzerland's contributions to sustainable water resource management and offering innovative solutions for water security and agriculture in Uzbekistan and broader issues in Central Asia.
The Swiss industry has long been associated with precision, quality, innovation, and reliability. For 13 consecutive years, Switzerland has ranked first in the global innovation index.
According to Konstantin Obolensky, the Swiss Ambassador to Uzbekistan: “I am convinced that in the rapidly developing environment of Uzbekistan, where significant funds are invested in public services and infrastructure, it is essential to choose solutions that will not require substantial changes in a short time. Swiss quality can provide just that.”
