5G in Kazakhstan: coverage, future prospects, and new use cases from Kcell.

At the Digital Almaty 2025 forum, Askar Zhambakin, the Chairman of the Board and CEO of JSC "Kcell," discussed the advancement of 5G technology in Kazakhstan. This information was reported by Bizmedia.kz from the event.

According to him, 2024 has become a year of active construction: the operator has commissioned over 2,500 base stations, of which 1,500 are operating on the 5G standard. To date, about 40% of the "Kcell" customer base is already utilizing the new technology, and in Almaty, coverage reaches 40% of users.

Main achievements and cases:

  • Almaty Metro: 9 out of 11 stations are already covered by 5G.
  • Tourist areas: high-speed internet has emerged, for example, in the Ayusai Gorge.
  • Western region: speeds have increased by 50-60%.
  • Industrial 5G: the company is actively developing Private 5G for enterprises.

The operator is also actively collaborating with Tele2 in a network sharing format (Geospring). As part of this initiative, by the end of 2024, the companies have jointly opened about 300 base stations, which has improved coverage and call quality.

Additionally, "Kcell" offers customers 5G routers that provide high-speed internet at home, with download speeds of up to 1 Gbps.
