The Global Dietary Database study on revealed that in 2020, the consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages led to 2.2 million new cases of type 2 diabetes and 1.2 million cardiovascular diseases worldwide.
According to statistics, 500 Uzbeks per 1 million are affected by cardiovascular diseases caused by the intake of sugar-sweetened beverages.
700 Uzbeks per 1 million have type 2 diabetes attributed to the consumption of sugary drinks.
Sugar-sweetened beverages are rapidly digested, contributing to weight gain and increasing the risk of diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, cancer, and tooth decay. Data analysis from 118 countries revealed that, on average, adults consumed 2.6 servings of such drinks per week, with the highest rates recorded in Latin America and the Caribbean.
The study indicated that the impact of these beverages is stronger in developing countries, particularly among men, urban residents, and educated youth. The authors emphasize the need for regulation of the sales and consumption of these drinks.
