Alibaba Cloud has registered as a VAT payer in Uzbekistan.

Uzbekistan, Tashkent – According to AN Podrobno.uz, the Chinese company Alibaba Cloud, part of the Alibaba Group, has officially registered as a value-added tax (VAT) payer in Uzbekistan, as reported by a Podrobno.uz correspondent.

According to the Tax Committee, registration took place on January 28 through a special VAT office.

Alibaba Cloud (Singapore) Private Limited provides electronic services, specializes in cloud computing, and will now pay the appropriate tax in Uzbekistan.

The company became the second foreign internet corporation to register for tax purposes in Uzbekistan in 2025. Previously, the Swiss eBay Marketplace GmbH underwent a similar registration.

Currently, there are 65 foreign internet companies registered as VAT payers in Uzbekistan. In 2024, the number of new foreign taxpayers increased slightly, with only six companies submitting applications, including the Irish division of the Etsy marketplace.

According to the legislation, foreign legal entities providing electronic services in Uzbekistan are required to pay VAT on income received from individuals.

It is worth noting that recently eBay, one of the largest online trading platforms in the world, also registered as a taxpayer in Uzbekistan.

In 2024, foreign IT giants paid nearly 116 billion sums in taxes in Uzbekistan.
