According to the preliminary investigation report, the highest number of breaches was recorded in the area of the keel and stabilizer. Some damages penetrated through the structure, while others were superficial. Experts will now conduct further studies to determine the exact nature and origin of these marks.
Additionally, the preliminary findings of the investigation into the crash of Azerbaijan Airlines in Aktau indicate that the crew faced serious issues before the tragedy.
After two unsuccessful landing attempts in Grozny due to the loss of GPS signal, the pilots decided to return to Baku. However, a loud noise soon followed, and the aircraft's system registered the disconnection of the autopilot and thrust control.
Experts discovered multiple damages in the tail section of the aircraft, including the keel, stabilizer, and elevators. The left engine and wing were also affected. Some breaches have a smooth rectangular shape, which may suggest the impact of foreign objects.
The accident led to a hydraulic fluid leak from three main systems, adversely affecting the aircraft's control. Additionally, electrical wires responsible for stabilizer adjustment were damaged, rendering pitch angle control impossible.
We remind you that the Ministry of Transport has published a preliminary report on the investigation of the crash of Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) aircraft, which crashed on December 25 near Aktau. The document is available on our Telegram.
