An emergency occurred in Semey on the Irtysh River on January 5. A vehicle carrying four people fell into the river after crashing into a concrete barrier. Only the driver managed to escape, making it to the shore on his own, while the others perished.
Immediately, the Ministry of Emergency Situations rescuers arrived at the scene and began search and rescue operations. The body of one victim was found on the same day.
On January 6, the vehicle was lifted from the river, but there were no bodies found inside. Currently, the search for the other two victims is ongoing.
The divers' work is complicated by the fact that the river is covered with ice. Diving in such conditions is permitted only at certain ice thickness levels, which they measure to ensure their own safety.
To assist, 10 divers from the republican emergency rescue team and two units of equipment have been dispatched. Additionally, divers from the East Kazakhstan region and rescuers from Pavlodar region have been involved.
The search continues.
