The administration of U.S. President Joe Biden is set to announce a large final military aid package for Ukraine on January 9. This was reported by the Associated Press, citing sources in the Pentagon.
According to the source, the announcement will take place during U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin's visit to Germany, where he will meet with representatives from around 50 partner countries supporting Ukraine.
The exact amount of the aid package has not been disclosed. However, it will be substantial but will not include all of the remaining approximately $4 billion allocated by Congress for assistance to Ukraine. A portion of the funds—over $2 billion—will remain at the disposal of the Donald Trump administration in case it decides to continue providing military support to Kyiv.
In recent weeks, the Biden administration has accelerated the delivery of military aid to Ukraine, fearing that Donald Trump, upon returning to the White House, may refuse to transfer the funds allocated by Congress to Kyiv that have not yet been spent.
Earlier, on December 30, Biden announced an allocation of nearly $2.5 billion to Ukraine. This package is the largest since January 2023.
