A lawmaker proposed an amnesty for incarcerated women in Kazakhstan.

In Kazakhstan, a proposal has been made to implement an amnesty for women serving sentences for non-violent crimes. This initiative was put forward by Deputy Karakat Abden, as reported by Bizmedia.kz.
Депутат предложила амнистию для женщин, отбывающих наказание в Казахстане.

According to her, there are currently 2,336 women behind bars, nearly half of whom are mothers. Among them, 250 are mothers of multiple children, and more than 1,500 children are forced to grow up without their mothers. About a hundred infants have ended up in orphanages.

Abden suggested offering a chance for freedom to those who do not pose a threat to society: first-time offenders, pregnant women, mothers with young children, mothers of multiple children, and women over 60 years old.
