Ilham Aliyev calls for accountability for those responsible for the crash of Azerbaijan Airlines near Aktau.

Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev has called for accountability for those responsible for the crash of an Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) aircraft near Aktau, according to Bizmedia.kz.
Ильхам Алиев настаивает на привлечении к ответственности виновных в авиакатастрофе самолета Azerbaijan Airlines возле Актау.

During a meeting with the families of the deceased crew members and the surviving flight attendants, Aliyev stated that it is currently impossible to disclose all the details of the investigation.

“At this moment, I cannot reveal all the details of the criminal case; however, I am aware of the preliminary results of the investigation. I confidently assert that the responsibility for the deaths of Azerbaijani citizens lies with representatives of the Russian Federation. We insist on justice, the punishment of those responsible, full transparency, and humane treatment,” said the President of Azerbaijan.

The President emphasized that the process of decoding the "black boxes" is ongoing. He noted that the decision to transfer them to Brazil was made to ensure the objectivity of the investigation.

“If, from the very first moments, Russian officials had taken steps for an objective investigation, we could have agreed to the analysis of the 'black boxes' by the Interstate Aviation Committee (IAC). However, attempts to conceal the circumstances of the tragedy by attributing the incident to birds or a gas cylinder have raised serious doubts about the objectivity of the IAC,” Aliyev added.

The head of state expressed confidence that the public will soon receive preliminary results that will shed light on the circumstances of the tragedy.

It is worth recalling that the aviation disaster occurred on December 25, 2024, three kilometers from Aktau Airport. The Embraer aircraft, operating the Baku – Grozny flight, crashed while attempting an emergency landing. There were 62 passengers and 5 crew members on board.
