On November 21, it was revealed that a blogger posted a video on their Instagram page featuring a young couple presented as the parents of minors. In the video, the blogger expressed approval of early marriages, which sparked public outcry.
With the involvement of the ombudsman, the case materials were submitted to the court. On November 25, the Termez City Court held the blogger administratively liable. A fine of 1.5 million sums was imposed for spreading false information. The blogger and the participants in the video were also warned about the unacceptability of such actions in the future.
Additionally, the children's ombudsman proposed the introduction of special laws that would prohibit any actions aimed at promoting and facilitating marriage with minors, emphasizing that our society has no place for any manifestations that undermine the interests of children.
"The interests of the child must come first, and such situations should be completely eliminated," stated the press service of the child rights commissioner.
It is important to note that in Uzbekistan, the legal marriage age for both men and women has been set at 18 since 2019.
