Kazakhstan has released preliminary findings from the investigation into the plane crash near Aktau.

The Ministry of Transport has released a preliminary report on the investigation into the crash of an Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) aircraft that occurred on December 25 near Aktau. The document can be found on our Telegram channel.

The report emphasizes that it is purely informational and does not assign blame for the incident. The data may still change after the analysis of all materials is completed, and the final report will be published later.

Details of the Crash

The tragedy occurred three kilometers from Aktau Airport. The Embraer aircraft, operating on the Baku – Grozny route, attempted an emergency landing but crashed. There were 62 passengers and 5 crew members on board.

The investigation is being led by Kazakhstan with the participation of specialists from Azerbaijan, Russia, and international experts. The "black boxes" have already been retrieved and are undergoing analysis. Media discussions include the theory that the disaster may have been caused by the operation of Russian air defense systems.

Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed condolences and apologized, noting that the tragedy occurred in Russian airspace. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev stated that the aircraft was damaged externally and its control was disrupted by electronic warfare means.

On board were 42 citizens of Azerbaijan, 16 Russians, 6 Kazakhs, and 3 citizens of Kyrgyzstan. Among the survivors are passengers from Azerbaijan, Russia, and Kyrgyzstan. There were no Kazakhs among the rescued.
