“One of the key issues is the wear and tear of rolling stock, which requires timely updates and modernization. Currently, the total number of locomotives is 1,807 units, with a wear level of 61%,” noted Marat Karabaev.
According to him, to ensure the rolling stock and reduce the wear level, 185 locomotives have been purchased this year.
“For next year, the acquisition of 187 units is planned, and over the next three years, an additional 257 locomotives are expected to be delivered. Ultimately, this will completely eliminate the deficit. As for freight cars... by 2026, the National Operator plans to supply an additional 3,000 open-top cars, of which 800 units have been put into operation this year,” the speaker noted.
Similar efforts will be carried out for the passenger car fleet.
“Last year, 118 new cars were purchased, and this year – 143 units. Next year, the plan is to acquire 226 cars. Overall, by 2029, around 1,200 passenger cars are expected to be purchased. As a result, the passenger car fleet will exceed 3,000 units and will reduce the wear level to 38%,” Karabaev summarized.
