As a reminder, it was reported in the media yesterday that bus passengers would be fined under the "fare evasion" article for attempting to pay their fare in cash. This was stated by Salimjon Nishonboev, an inspector from the capital's Transport Inspection, in an interview with UzA.
The Ministry of Transport has emphasized in an official statement that such information is inaccurate.
"The information regarding fines for passengers who paid their fare in cash is unfounded. Current legislation does not provide for fines for attempting to pay the fare in cash. Article 144 of the Code of Administrative Responsibility applies solely in cases of fare evasion," the statement clarifies.
It is worth noting that starting from January 1, 2025, the option to pay bus fares in cash in Tashkent will be discontinued. Fares can only be paid electronically, using methods such as bank cards, mobile applications, or ATTO transport cards. In this case, the cost of a single trip is 1700 sums. Additionally, fares can be paid using one-time tickets with a QR code costing 3,000 sums, which can be purchased at info kiosks at bus stops.
