Минсельхоз объяснил, почему цены на картофель выросли.

In recent days, there has been an active discussion on social media regarding the rise in potato prices, allegedly reaching 12,000 sums per kilogram. The Ministry of Agriculture of Uzbekistan commented on the situation and refuted these claims.

According to the ministry, the average price for a kilogram of potatoes at the Food City market in Tashkent is 8,500 sums (with a minimum of 7,500 sums and a maximum of 9,000 sums). At specialized fairs in the regions, potatoes are sold even cheaper — at 5,000–6,000 sums per kilogram.

At major markets in the capital, prices vary:

  • “Aviasonlar”, “Kuylyuk”, “Mirabad”, “Yunusabad” — 9,000 sums;
  • “Sergeli”, “Farhad”, “Chilanzar”, “Eski Juva”, “Karakamish”, “Askiya”, “Alayskiy” — 10,000 sums.

The Ministry of Agriculture also stated that measures are being taken to stabilize prices. In 2025, it is planned to plant potatoes on 122,000 hectares, and the new harvest, expected in April-May, should help reduce prices.

Furthermore, the country currently has 245.6 thousand tons of potatoes in reserves, of which 9.9 thousand tons have already been sent to the markets. At specialized fairs, the product is sold at a price of 4,000–4,500 sums per kilogram.

The ministry anticipates price stabilization in February-March and a decrease with the arrival of the new harvest.
