New water tariffs have helped save approximately 1.6 million cubic meters of water in Kazakhstan.

The Committee for the Regulation of Natural Monopolies of the Ministry of National Economy of the Republic of Kazakhstan has noted that by revising the principles of drinking water pricing for the population and introducing "social consumption norms" in 11 regions across the country, a total of 1.6 billion cubic meters of clean drinking water has been saved, as reported by Bizmedia.kz.
Новые водные тарифы способствовали экономии примерно 1,6 млн кубометров воды в Казахстане.

The new tariff system is based on the principle of "the more you consume, the more you pay." This means that for consumers who use water inefficiently, rates will increase.

Thanks to the implementation of "social consumption norms" in six regions (Akmola, Aktobe, Turkestan, Ulytau regions, as well as in Almaty and Shymkent), an average of 1.65 million cubic meters of water is saved monthly. Before the introduction of the new system, the average consumption in these regions was 21.1 million cubic meters, which has now decreased to 19.5 million cubic meters.

Differentiated tariffs promote the development of a culture of economical and rational water use. The experience from the six regions has confirmed the effectiveness of this approach.

Starting from December 1 of last year, "social consumption norms" began to take effect in the Zhambyl region. This year, the implementation of this measure is planned for the Mangistau, East Kazakhstan, West Kazakhstan, and North Kazakhstan regions.

Additional revenue generated from increased tariffs for inefficient consumers will be directed towards the modernization and reconstruction of water supply and drainage systems, which will enhance the quality and sustainability of services.

We remind you that if the water consumption exceeds the norm by 3 cubic meters, the fee increases by 20%. If the excess is 5 cubic meters, the tariff rises by 50%, and if it exceeds 10 cubic meters or if there are no meters, the cost of water doubles.
