The mausoleum of Khalifa Erezhep in Karakalpakstan has a new look, thanks to a grant from the United States.

On October 15, U.S. Ambassador Jonathan Henick visited Khojayli in Karakalpakstan to celebrate the completion of the restoration of the Khalifa Erezhep Mausoleum. This project was carried out by the International Institute of Central Asian Studies (IICAS) with the support of a grant from the Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP).
Мавзолей Халифа Ережеп в Каракалпакстане обрел новый облик благодаря финансированию от США.

The mausoleum has received new informational plaques with interactive elements that tell about its history and restoration efforts. An audio guide has also been developed, accessible on mobile devices, offering visitors an immersive experience into the site's history.

A dedicated website has been created, focusing on the history of the mausoleum, restoration, and practical information for tourists.

Ambassador Henik emphasized the significance of the mausoleum as a symbol of the rich history and culture of Karakalpakstan and noted that the project is a result of a strong partnership between the USA and Uzbekistan.

As part of the project, local scholars and conservators underwent training in architectural conservation and sustainable tourism development, enhancing their skills and knowledge in cultural heritage preservation.

Since 2001, the Ambassador's Fund for Cultural Preservation has supported 15 projects in Uzbekistan, focusing on the conservation of historical monuments, rare manuscripts, and museum collections.

The restoration of the Khalifa Erezhep mausoleum is yet another example of successful collaboration between the USA and Uzbekistan in preserving cultural heritage for future generations.
