“In several countries, including the USA, China, and Russia, projects involving unmanned vehicles are already being successfully implemented. The market for unmanned vehicles holds immense potential. Experts predict exponential growth in this sector in the near future. For instance, by 2035, the market for unmanned vehicles is expected to reach $3 trillion, an increase of nearly 100 times,” said Zhaslan Madiyev, discussing international experience in the field of unmanned transport.
In Kazakhstan, he suggests conducting a regulatory sandbox, within which regulations will be adopted, test sites will be selected for pilot launches, so that, as the project proves successful, it can be scaled nationwide.
“Launching such an initiative for unmanned transport will provide Kazakhstan with several strategic advantages. Firstly, it will attract international companies and investments. Companies like Waymo (Google), Tesla, Baidu, Mobileye, Yandex, and Huawei are actively seeking countries with flexible regulations for testing unmanned vehicles. Secondly, there will be an influx of foreign investment in research, infrastructure, and the production of components for autonomous cars. For example, in the UAE, the regulatory sandbox allowed companies like WeRide and Cruise to test unmanned taxis in Dubai, which accelerated local digitalization of transport,” he added.
