Sergek and AI: How technology is enhancing safety in urban environments.

Today, we attended the Digital Almaty 2025 forum, where Evgeny Kim, the chairman of Sergek Group, discussed the integration of artificial intelligence into smart city systems and its impact on transportation safety in urban areas, as reported by Bizmedia.kz.
Sergek и AI: как технологии повышают безопасность в городах.

Evgeny Kim noted that after the implementation of their system in the new region, the average mortality rates from traffic accidents decreased by 30–50% over the course of a year compared to previous periods.

“The figures show that in this region, after the introduction of our system, the statistics on mortality from road traffic accidents drop by 30 to 50% within one year compared to the previous period. These are, in fact, indicators that we are very proud of,” he said.

Additionally, according to him, the total number of traffic accidents has decreased by 30%, the rate of crime resolution has improved, and the overall number of crimes has also declined.

“These are the indicators that are already real in Kazakhstan thanks to our technologies,” Kim emphasized.

The speaker then touched on the topic of Smart City and the integration of technologies into the real urban environment. He pointed out that, according to forecasts from international sources, urbanization will only continue to grow, leading to increased needs and resource consumption.

“The trend is that the overall number of residents in cities will increase, and consequently, the number of needs and resources required to support everyone will also rise,” he explained.

Kim highlighted that these issues will need to be addressed by cities and businesses, including through the use of technology. As an example, he discussed the implementation of AI solutions for smart and safe cities.

“A city can have a thousand, ten thousand, twenty thousand, or fifty thousand cameras. Without the application of technology, as mentioned in the case presented by colleagues regarding compliance, the city would simply have to scale the number of people manually monitoring all of this. However, one person, one operator cannot simultaneously monitor hundreds or thousands of cameras,” explained the chairman of Sergek Group.

As a solution to this problem, the company proposed a video stream aggregation system that significantly increases the efficiency of operators and helps automate the monitoring process.

“Today we received an award for Digital Almaty in the category of AI solutions in security. The solution is as follows — aggregation of all video streams into one platform, into one system, which allows the end users, the authorized employees, to work with this much more effectively,” Kim shared.

He noted that the system allows for data consolidation, eliminating the need to switch between different programs and applying video analytics, which overall reduces the necessity for a large number of operators.

“So, first — it’s simply consolidation so that people are not sitting, conditionally, in different network windows, different programs. This is consolidation for the system. Second — it’s video analytics, which allows users to work much more efficiently. This means that, first of all, there’s no need to have a hundred people to monitor thousands of cameras. The system itself will ensure uniform checks,” he concluded.
