Shavkat Mirziyoyev sent condolences to the President of the United States, Joseph Biden, due to the numerous human casualties resulting from the terrorist act committed in New Orleans.
“The leader of our state expressed heartfelt words of sympathy and support on behalf of the people of Uzbekistan to the families and loved ones of the victims, to the entire American nation, and also wished a swift recovery to the injured,” the statement reads.
As a result of a vehicle driving into a crowd, the number of deaths reached 15 people. Authorities have identified the suspect in the crime as 42-year-old U.S. Army veteran Shamsud-Din Jabbar from Texas.
On New Year's Eve, he drove into a crowd on Bourbon Street in the French Quarter of downtown. The assailant then exited the vehicle and opened fire on pedestrians. He was killed in a shootout with the police. The FBI is investigating the mass murder in New Orleans as a terrorist act.
