The United States has returned some helicopters that were delivered by Afghan pilots to Uzbekistan following the Taliban's takeover. This was reported by Voice of America, citing Pentagon officials present at an event at the Uzbekistan Embassy in Washington.
This information came to light during an event at the U.S. Embassy in Uzbekistan, marking the 33rd anniversary of the establishment of the armed forces.
The Ambassador of Uzbekistan to the U.S. and Canada, Furkat Sidikov, expressed Tashkent's readiness to expand cooperation with Washington across all areas.
In 2021, according to the October 30 report from the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction, A-29 Super Tucano attack aircraft, UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters, MD-530s, and Mi-17s ended up in Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. These aircraft and helicopters were flown by Afghan pilots in August 2021 after the Taliban took power.
The Taliban have repeatedly requested the Uzbek government to return their equipment. However, it was later announced that Tashkent and Washington had reached an agreement regarding the fate of this military equipment, which will remain in Uzbekistan.
