Out of a total population of 20,286,084 people, urban residents accounted for 12,774,743, while rural inhabitants numbered 7,511,341. The overall population growth reached 252,242 individuals, with 235,078 attributed to natural increase and 17,164 resulting from migration processes.
The highest population growth rates were recorded in Astana (+6.91%), Almaty (+2.86%), and Shymkent (+2.80%).
In addition to cities of republican significance, over one million people reside in Turkestan (2.1 million), Almaty (1.5 million), Zhambyl (1.2 million), and Karaganda (1.1 million) regions.
