The Minister of Transport of Uzbekistan, Ilkhom Makhkamov, referred to the new road as an "artery" that will connect the capital with the Fergana Valley. He also mentioned significant interest from foreign companies: "More than 30 foreign companies have expressed interest in the project. This year, we will begin construction work."
It is known that the project for the new highway, which spans 314 kilometers, has been developed with the support of the World Bank. It is part of a broader plan to modernize Uzbekistan's transport network, which includes other key routes, such as Tashkent – Samarkand, the construction of which will also start this year.
The commissioning of the new highway will not only accelerate movement but is also expected to boost the country's gross domestic product by 2.6% and reduce the number of road traffic accidents by 40%.
Let us remind you that on February 3, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev was briefed on major transport infrastructure projects, including the construction of an alternative road from Tashkent to Andijan.
