Tokayev noted that the CSTO is a key structure for ensuring peace and stability in Eurasia. Today, the CSTO is in demand as a guarantor of security for its members.
“Our coordinated actions, mutual trust, and support strengthen our collective ability to tackle the most complex and large-scale challenges. The CSTO is not just a military partnership, but a unique mechanism that unites our efforts and resources to protect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our states. As the chair of the CSTO, Kazakhstan has focused its efforts on enhancing close cooperation among member countries, improving the effectiveness of crisis response mechanisms, and developing our organization's capabilities in combating modern threats, including terrorism, cyberattacks, transnational crime, and drug trafficking,” stated the head of state.
Various statutory bodies, military exercises, and preventive operations within the CSTO have already taken place as part of the program.
“Ministers of foreign affairs and defense discussed pressing issues of collective security in detail. Meetings were held at the level of security council secretaries and parliamentary leaders, as well as sessions of auxiliary and working bodies of the organization. A series of consultations were conducted on various areas of CSTO activity. During the intersessional period, several important documents were adopted concerning international cooperation, defense interaction, and counteraction to modern challenges and threats to collective security. Special attention was paid to preparations for the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. Today, the Collective Security Council will present a corresponding statement,” he noted.
Tokayev emphasized that all tasks set for the CSTO during Kazakhstan's chairmanship have been completed.
“Today we will discuss the international and regional situation, assess its impact on the security of CSTO member states. We will also hear information regarding work across a wide range of cooperation within the CSTO and summarize the activities of the past period. As the chair, I declare the next session of the CSTO Collective Security Council open,” stated Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
Earlier in Astana, a joint meeting of the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs, the Council of Ministers of Defense, and the Committee of Secretaries of the Security Councils of the CSTO took place under Kazakhstan's chairmanship.
