Meta has unveiled its new augmented reality glasses, Orion, at the annual developer conference. A detailed review of the device was published on the company's official website.
These glasses can project digital images and interact with the real world, representing the next step in the evolution of smart glasses capable of replacing computers and smartphones.
Meta's CEO Mark Zuckerberg referred to Orion as a "time machine," providing access to future technologies. The glasses enable video calls with digital images of conversation partners, making communication as realistic as possible. The device can also recognize products, such as chia seeds, and suggest recipes by projecting them over real objects.
Orion are made from a magnesium alloy and feature a special silicon developed by Meta. The device is controlled through voice commands, hand gestures, and a wrist interface. The silicon carbide lenses allow holograms to be projected using miniature projectors embedded in the temples, making interaction feel more natural compared to technologies used in virtual reality.
