The press service of the Ministry of Employment and Poverty Reduction clarified that the poverty level in Uzbekistan is determined based on international standards and studies conducted in collaboration with the World Bank.
It is noted that the highest percentage of poverty reduction was recorded in four regions of the country. In the Bukhara region, it decreased from 11.8% to 8.7%, in the Samarkand region from 10.5% to 7.5%, and in the Namangan region from 10.4% to 7.6%. In Karakalpakstan, a reduction from 13.6% to 10.8% was observed.
According to the ministry, significant factors in the decline of poverty levels in the country included measures to ensure employment for the population and engage them in entrepreneurial activities, as well as improving the efficiency of land use allocated for subsidiary and farming activities.
At the same time, real incomes of the population increased by 10.7% in 2024, reaching an average of 2.1 million soms per capita per month (at the beginning of the year, this figure was 1.7 million soms).
The structure of household income is defined as follows:
wages – 42.6% (in 2023 – 41.9%);
income from entrepreneurial activities – 22.9% (21.4%);
pensions, social assistance, and subsidies – 18.2% (18.9%);
income from agriculture and subsidiary farming – 10.7% (9.8%);
remittances from abroad – 2.0% (3.1%);
other income – 3.6% (4.9%).
It is worth noting that last year, the average monthly salary in Uzbekistan was 5.35 million soms. Compared to the previous year, this figure increased by 17.4%.
