Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan have discussed the issue of mutual recognition of ID cards, which would allow citizens of both countries to cross the border without a passport. This is reported by “Dunyo”.
According to the information, an online meeting was organized with the support of the Uzbek embassy, involving representatives from the relevant ministries and agencies of Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan, to discuss the possibility of recognizing ID cards of citizens from both nations as official documents for border crossing.
Moreover, the use of ID cards will enable citizens of Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan to cross the border without obtaining a foreign passport. This will enhance travel convenience and strengthen integration between the countries.
Earlier in September 2023, citizens of Uzbekistan were allowed to enter Kyrgyzstan using ID cards. There are also plans to implement a similar arrangement with Kazakhstan and Tajikistan.
