Until recently, Uzbekistan lacked a dedicated higher education institution specializing in ecology. The new university, established in accordance with the presidential decree from May 31, 2023, focuses on contemporary ecological issues.

As part of the "Uzbekistan - 2030" strategy, measures are being implemented in our country to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. This encompasses 17 objectives related to well-being in areas such as climate change, clean water and energy, healthcare, education, consumption, and production, which largely depend on the availability of skilled professionals. Therefore, the university has launched undergraduate and graduate programs in fields such as "Environmental and Sustainable Management," "Environment and Economics," "Ecology and Public Administration," "Sustainable Development," "Sustainable Finance," "Environmental Law," and "Mass Communications in Environmental Issues."

The educational building, designed for 450 students, has been extensively renovated and equipped with modern facilities. Instruction is conducted in English, with faculty members recruited from the USA, UK, Mexico, and France.

The President met with the university's faculty and students.

— Today, ecology is becoming as important as digital technologies. In the future, all sectors must develop in harmony with ecology. That is why we have opened programs here such as ecological economics, finance, and law. It is essential to expand dual education and to implement acquired knowledge more swiftly in practice, — stated Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

The President instructed the establishment of technical colleges to train mid-level specialists in ecology in Karakalpakstan and each region of the country.

The university has already initiated the exchange of academic and professional experiences with foreign universities, developing joint educational programs based on the integration of science, education, and industry.

The university's modern laboratory plays a crucial role in engaging students in research activities and enhancing their experience. The laboratory conducts studies on soil, water, biodiversity, and waste, allowing for significant scientific conclusions.

The head of state also toured the laboratory.

— There is scientific potential and necessary equipment here. They need to be utilized effectively. For example, analyses can be conducted on a contractual basis for regions with challenging soil and water conditions. This will benefit both parties, — said the President.

Particular attention at the university is given to interdisciplinary research, innovative teaching methods, and the integration of scientific research and practice. The educational process is organized based on the "Hub and Spoke" model, which promotes the creation of a cohesive learning system, optimizes resources, and increases the mobility of students and specialists.

For the further development of the university, plans include the reconstruction of the buildings of former colleges in the Yunusabad district of Tashkent and the Bostanlyk district of Tashkent region, transforming them into full-fledged campuses.
