Uzbekistan has proposed banning plastic bags starting in 2027.

Starting from 2027, Uzbekistan plans to ban the production, import, and use of plastic bags. This initiative is outlined in the draft National Program for Reducing Plastic Pollution for 2025–2027, which has been presented for public discussion.

The program aims to encourage the use of biodegradable materials, limit harmful chemicals in plastic, and establish a mandatory ratio of recycled plastic in packaging.

Additionally, producers and importers of plastic products may be required to set up collection and disposal points for packaging.

The draft law regulating these changes is expected to be submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers by November 2025.

A similar ban is also being prepared for implementation in Kyrgyzstan starting in 2027.
