The presentation of the logo developed by the Ministry of Ecology of Uzbekistan took place on February 3 in Geneva during the 78th meeting of the CITES Standing Committee.
"The COP20 logo symbolizes Uzbekistan's commitment to preserving our valuable wildlife. Each element holds special significance, reflecting the inseparable connection between nature, culture, and the history of our region," stated Aziz Abduhakimov, Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change, at the opening of the meeting.
He emphasized that Uzbekistan takes pride in hosting COP20 – an important platform for discussing global issues related to biodiversity conservation.
The logo features several elements of Uzbekistan's national natural and cultural heritage: an ancient petroglyph depicting the argali (mountain sheep), the medicinal plant Rhodiola semonovii, and landmarks from Samarkand, where the CITES COP20 will take place.
It is noteworthy that Uzbekistan is the first country in Central Asia to host a meeting of 185 parties (184 countries + the European Union) of CITES and a wide range of stakeholders in the field of wildlife conservation and trade. The global event is expected to attract over four thousand participants and delegates.
Additionally, it was previously reported that Uzbekistan intends to join the Convention on Long-range Transboundary Air Pollution.
