The former head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and ex-governor of the Jalal-Abad region in Kyrgyzstan, Sultan Urmanaev, has been detained on suspicion of corruption, reports the press service of the State Committee for National Security (GKNB) of the republic.
“Employees of the GKNB have detained the former Minister of Emergency Situations, former deputy of the Kyrgyz parliament, and ex-governor of the Jalal-Abad region U.S.I. (Urmanaev Sultan Isakunovich) as part of an ongoing criminal investigation into corruption,” the statement reads.
According to the GKNB, during the period from December 1995 to April 1996, while serving as the chairman of the board of the state joint-stock company “Kyrgyztransavto,” he, with the assistance of other officials, misappropriated state funds to purchase shares of the GAC “Tokchuluk.”
