The project documentation for the construction of a small-capacity nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan by Russia is already underway, and preparatory work at the future site of the station has also begun. This was reported by the First Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, Denis Manturov, during the 25th meeting of the intergovernmental commission on cooperation between Russia and Uzbekistan.

“During the president’s visit to Uzbekistan in May, an agreement was reached on the construction of a small-capacity nuclear power plant. The project documentation is already being developed. Preparatory work at the future NPP site has also commenced,” he stated.

In May, an export contract for the construction of the small-capacity nuclear power plant was signed in Tashkent. It involves the construction of a nuclear power plant in the Jizzakh region of Uzbekistan based on a Russian design with a capacity of 330 MW.

The general contractor for the construction of the station is Rosatom, and local companies are also expected to be involved in the project. In early September, Uzatom and "Atomstroyexport" signed a protocol to commence work at the future station's construction site.
