On October 25, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, met with the head of the election observation mission of the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (ODIHR OSCE), Douglas Wake.
During the meeting, a thorough exchange of views took place regarding the preparation and conduct of the upcoming parliamentary elections in our country.
The established open and constructive dialogue between Uzbekistan and the OSCE and its institutions was noted with satisfaction, particularly the fruitful cooperation with the Office.
The active work of the ODIHR observer mission in the preparation for the upcoming parliamentary elections was highly appreciated. Bureau experts participated in the process of enhancing the national electoral system. Most of their recommendations and proposals were taken into account and implemented in the legislation of our country.
The ODIHR representative sincerely thanked for the attention given to the work of the mission and expressed support for the ongoing democratic transformations and socio-economic reforms in New Uzbekistan.
It was particularly emphasized that these elections are the first to be held under a mixed electoral system based on the provisions of the updated Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan, which aims to strengthen the role of Parliament and local representative bodies of power.
