On October 25, the reconstructed 240-kilometer segment of the Kungrad – Beineu highway was put into operation. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev participated in the ceremony held to mark this occasion.
This road is part of a strategic highway linking our country with European nations. However, due to years of use and the sharply continental climate of the Aral Sea region, it had deteriorated. Consequently, a project costing 323 million dollars was implemented for its modern reconstruction.
During the ceremony, the head of state emphasized the significance of this road.
– Now, the distance for international transport across our country will be reduced by 1,000 kilometers, and transportation costs will decrease by 25 percent. This road will become part of the logistics network, reliably connecting our country with European markets via the Caspian and Black Sea ports. Another important aspect is that the daily transport flow on the international corridor "A-380," passing through Uzbekistan, will triple, – noted Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
The road meets international standards, ensuring safe passenger and freight transport.
Previously, other sections of the Guzar - Bukhara - Nukus - Beineu international highway were repaired. On February 29 of this year, a new bridge over the Amu Darya was opened, connecting Karakalpakstan with Khorezm. Such efforts facilitate the movement of people, enhance economic activity, and provide an additional boost to entrepreneurship.
According to estimates, over 200 trade and service facilities, as well as industrial enterprises, will emerge along the new road. This will create initially 2,000 jobs, with an additional 5,000 jobs expected later. Thus, a solid foundation for increasing transit and other services in Karakalpakstan by 200 million dollars annually, and for boosting exports by no less than 300 million dollars, will be established.
The lives of more than 1 million residents of the Turtkul, Ellikkalin, Beruniy, Nukus, Khojayli, Shumanay, Kanlikul, Karauzyak, and Kungrad districts, through which this highway runs, will change.
The President expressed gratitude to the builders and workers involved in this project, the Asian Development Bank, contractors from Turkey, Azerbaijan, and China, as well as consultants from South Korea and Italy.
- The construction of roads and bridges, bringing people closer together, and easing their burdens is among the noblest endeavors. In the faces of road builders, we see such noble and hardworking individuals who have earned the blessing and gratitude of the people. May the economic potential of New Uzbekistan grow, and may such good deeds multiply to enhance the well-being of our people, - said the head of our state.
Participants from both ends of this 240-kilometer road connected to the event via a telebridge - from the Kungrad district of Karakalpakstan and the "Davud-ota" customs post at the border with Kazakhstan. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev happily launched traffic on the road and congratulated fellow citizens on this significant event.
The ceremony included representatives from state agencies and the public.
The head of state was also presented with a monitoring system for engineering structures. According to this system, electronic sensors will be installed at specific points on strategic bridges. This will enable continuous monitoring of strength and quality. Should any deviation from the norm be recorded, the issue will be promptly identified and resolved. This will ensure long-lasting and quality operation of the bridges.
The system will also allow for cost savings. About 20 types of reporting will be transitioned from paper to electronic format. Monitoring data will be stored for up to 30 years. The first such project has been implemented on the new overpass on Babur Street leading to Tashkent International Airport. The ceremony also marked the launch of this transport interchange.
The total length of the overpass is 702 meters, with a width of 46 meters. Additionally, two cloverleafs and four arc-shaped exits have been constructed, effectively connecting with the Small Ring Road and Sadik Talipov Street. This eliminated the need for U-turns, easing vehicle movement. Overall, this transport hub can accommodate 5,000 vehicles per hour and 132,000 per day.
The President highlighted the necessity of implementing this system on 114 overpasses in the capital, and subsequently throughout all regions.
It should be noted that over the past eight years, 2,000 kilometers of roads have been reconstructed, and 100,000 kilometers of roads have been repaired in our country. Most importantly, the quality of work is improving, with new types of polymer concrete and cement concrete coatings being widely used. As a result, the lifespan of roads has increased by 1.5 times.
In cooperation with foreign companies, 10 major projects for the construction of another thousand kilometers of roads are planned for next year.
