On November 22, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting to discuss measures for the socio-economic development of the Surkhandarya region, aimed at further enhancing the investment climate and business environment.
As a result of systematic efforts aimed at regional development, the area is also opening up vast opportunities. Next year, it is planned to attract 2 billion dollars in investments to Surkhandarya, create jobs for 425 thousand people, and boost exports to 320 million dollars.
For instance, in the "Airitom" international trade zone, products worth an average of 5 million dollars are sold monthly. By expanding its territory to 150 hectares, projects worth an additional 250 million dollars can be implemented.
Chinese investors are proposing to invest 2.7 billion dollars in copper-silver mines in the Babatag area and create 2 thousand jobs. This will allow for the export of finished products worth 600 million dollars annually.
The territories of Vandob and Chorbog in Sherabad are rich in mineral resources such as tungsten, coal, table salt, and quartz sand. It is planned to attract 320 million dollars in investments to these deposits, creating 1.5 thousand jobs. A branch of the Termez Free Economic Zone is expected to open on 50 hectares in the Bandikhan district.
There are also many untapped opportunities in agriculture. For example, the climate in the Baysun and Uzun districts is favorable for growing ferula. Providing the population with 18 thousand hectares of pasture and forest land for these purposes will ensure employment for 4 thousand people. Similar pastures in the Uzun, Shurchi, and Kumkurgan districts can be used to set up sheep and cattle breeding complexes.
The water collected in 17 collectors in Muzrabod allows for rice cultivation on nearly 4 thousand hectares. As a result, 8.5 thousand tons of rice will be produced annually, providing permanent employment for 400 people and seasonal jobs for an additional 4.5 thousand.
Establishing greenhouses on 300 hectares in the Kyzylryk district and vineyards on 1 thousand hectares in the Altynsai district will yield significant economic benefits from growing in-demand products.
A program will be developed to improve tourism conditions in Sangardak, Amanhan, Baysun, and attract at least 1 million tourists.
During the meeting, the khokim of Surkhandarya region presented plans to utilize such opportunities.
The head of state issued directives for implementing entrepreneurial initiatives, producing finished products based on natural resources, and developing trade and services. It was emphasized that every inch of land allocated for agriculture should contribute to employment and food security.
