OpenAI has announced the launch of an internet search feature through ChatGPT for all users. According to the company, this move challenges Google, which currently holds a leading position in the search engine market.

The feature, named ChatGPT Search, became available to all registered users in mobile apps and the web version of the service starting December 16. Previously, only subscribers to paid plans could utilize internet search through ChatGPT. OpenAI emphasizes that the new tool allows users to "receive quick and up-to-date answers with links to verified sources."

Users can enter queries in a familiar format, and the chatbot will autonomously determine whether to search for information online. If needed, users can manually activate the search via a special button or ask the bot to clarify the request and provide a more detailed summary.

ChatGPT Search can also be set as the default search engine in browsers. This move could position ChatGPT as a competitor to Google, as many find it more convenient to receive a ready-made summary of information from AI than to search for answers across various sites themselves.

Additionally, OpenAI has introduced a new feature—verbal responses from the chatbot, which can be requested for recommendations on leisure activities in a specific city, for example.

The launch of the search function is part of a 12-day announcement marathon by OpenAI. During this event, the company has already unveiled the ChatGPT Pro subscription priced at $200 per month and a tool for creating videos using AI called Sora. At least one more announcement is expected in the coming days as the marathon continues.
